Course Description

Course Description:

This course is an overview of the features of the Microsoft Windows operating system and environment. Students learn to use and customize the start menu; work with Windows accessory programs; manage storage drives, work with folders and files;  create shortcuts; and customize the desktop. This couse is designed for students intending to use Microsoft Windows for academic, professional and/or personal purposes.  Associate Degree Credit & transfer to CSU.



CBTE 094 or CBTE 101 or CBTE 103, and ENGL 047A or ENGL 048 and ENGL 049, each with a grade of "C" or better, or equivalent, or Assessment Skill Levels W5/R5.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:


1. Identify Windows fundamentals.

2. Operate the Windows desktop features.

3. Open, search, and manage files and folders.

4. Utilize Windows software to send and receive e-mail messages for personal communication.

5. Design ways to improve productivity while using the computer to personalize a work environment.


Application and Registration Information


  1. Complete Online Application (for new SDCCD students). Go to Student Web Services
  2. Receive registration appointment and instructions by email or mail.
  3. Register online at the Reg-e, our online registration system.
  4. Make sure that you pay your tuition so that you don't lose your registration!   Fees and Tuition Information.
  5. Order textbooks online. Visit our online bookstore.
  6. After completion of registration on Reg-e, and several days prior to the start of the semester, you will receive an email with course login instructions. If you don't receive an email please go to and login on the first day of class as follows:

    Type your Blackboard Username = 7-digit College Student Identification (CSID) number
    Type your Password =  mmddyyyy (your birthdate with no hyphens, slashes, or spaces)

    For example:  1010101 (CSID number used at registration)
                           06231980 (password for the birthdate June 23, 1980 )
  7. If this course is closed, please login to Reg-e to be placed on a waitlist. If the waitlist is full, you will not be able to add your name to the waitlist.

** For additional help, I will be offering face-to-face workshops on selected  Fridays at Mesa Learning Resource Center 4th floor.  Check the course syllabus for date / time and email me in advance for an appointment.

**IMPORTANT:** You must log into the course website at least once a week and complete one graded activity prior to 6 PM on August 27, 2017 - 1st session (on Oct. 22, 2017 - 2nd session) (Refer to the List of Assignments section in the syllabus.) This will demonstrate that you intend to complete the coursework. Failure to do so will cause you to be dropped from the class.
