Course Description

This course illustrates to the student how to use accounting computer programs in a commercial business enterprise. As a basis for instruction, it demonstrates the use of QuickBooks Pro accounting software on a PC. The full accounting cycle and payroll is evaluated within a typical business environment. Business transactions are identified, labeled, recorded, and processed for both service and merchandise businesses. Financial statements are constructed, evaluated, and reviewed for accuracy and completeness.

Course Objectives



 Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:


  1. Differentiate between a manual and a computerized accounting system and record financial transactions in the computerized system.
  2. Record business transactions in a computerized accounting system and generate an Income Statement and Balance Sheet.


Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Computerize a manual accounting system by converting paper records to an electronic format
  • Use electronic forms, lists and registers to enter customer, vendor and banking transactions
  • Generate transaction and summary reports and produce financial statements
  • Work with inventory, sales tax, reports and graphs
  • Prepare payroll, paychecks and liabilities for one period
  • Record loans, fixed assets and equity activities
  • Record adjustments and end of year activities

  2. Receive registration appointment and instructions by email or mail.
  3. Register online at the Reg-e, our online registration system.
  4. Make sure that you pay your tuition so that you don't lose your registration!   Fees and Tuition Information.
  5. Order textbooks online. Visit our online bookstore.
  6. After completion of registration on Reg-e, and several days prior to the start of the semester, you will receive an email with course login instructions. If you don't receive an email please go to and login on the first day of class as follows:

    Type your Blackboard Username = 7-digit College Student Identification (CSID) number
    Type your Password =  mmddyyyy (your birthdate with no hyphens, slashes, or spaces)

    For example:  1010101 (CSID number used at registration)
                           06231980 (password for the birthdate June 23, 1980 )
  7. If this course is closed, please login to Reg-e to be placed on a waitlist. If the waitlist is full, you will not be able to add your name to the waitlist.

You will not be able to login to your online course until the first day of the semester!!!

This class uses the windows desktop premier Accountant 2015 edition. No other versions, including online or mac are acceptable. Do NOT buy the software.You MUST buy the required textbook. The textbook comes with a key code to download a free trial of Quickbooks 2015 Desktop Accountant Edition and a key code to Labyrinth e-Lab (also a requirement).
