Turn on / off Self-Registration

Students using WebCT in an oncampus course will create their own myWebCT accounts. (Online students will be automatically enrolled into their online courses. Do not turn on Self-Registration for online courses.)

Students in oncampus courses using WebCT create their WebCT account using:

WebCT ID = 7-digit College Student Identification (CSID) number
Password =  mmddyyyy (birthdate with no hyphens, slashes, or spaces)
For example:    1010101 (CSID number used at registration)

                          06231980 (password for birthdate June 23, 1980)

Once the student creates an account he or she will have the capability to add courses to their myWebCT account. However, they can only add courses which have self-registration turned on. After the first two weeks of the semester, you will want to turn off self-registration to keep browsing students from entering your course. The following steps will guide you through turning on or off self-registration within your WebCT course.

 
   
 

WebCT Homepage:

1. From your WebCT course homepage, select Manage Course from the Control Panel.

2. From the Manage Course page, select Change settings under the Manage Students category.

3. Select the radio button next to either Allow self-registration or Do not allow self-registration depending on your intent.

Allow self-registration will allow students to to add your course to their myWebCT account. You should allow self-registration the first two weeks of the semester.

Do not allow self-registration will keep students from adding your course to their myWebCT account. You should select 'Do not allow self-registration' two weeks after the beginning of the semester to keep browsing students from entering your course.

4. Once you have selected your self-registration option, select Update to complete the transaction.

You will need to manually add your students once you have turned off self-registration. This will occur after the first two weeks of the semester when you have students logging in late or for students whom you have provided add codes.
