Understand the subfield of
biological anthropology in the larger context of the social and life
sciences, including a brief history of the discipline of anthropology as a
whole. Examine the roots of evolutionary thinking
and how it became a central tenet of biological anthropology. Describe the applications of modern genetic
research (molecular, Mendelian, population) in
unraveling some of the mysteries of human evolution. Survey the field of human adaptation and
variation and the ways in which evolutionary forces mold human populations. Learn about living nonhuman primates by
their classification, anatomical and behavioral adaptations and social life. Develop an understanding of the human fossil
