Course Specific Information

Policies

Introduction : Regular participation in online activities and discussions is expected (at least three times per week for a total of at least three hours + team/project/assignment activities). The WebCT SystemŽ used for this online instruction provides the instructor with extensive information about student activities on the site, facilitating the monitoring of actual participation. Permanent removal from the course for lack of attendance is at the instructor's discretion, following standard Community College District course attendance guidelines, if there is a lack of assignment submissions; lack of survey/quiz/exam taking; lack of participation (active posting in discussions, email); and/or lack of logging in.

It is the student's responsibility to add, drop, or withdraw from classes before the deadlines stated in the class schedule. Petitions to add, drop, or withdraw after the deadline will not be approved without proof of circumstances beyond the student's control, which made him/her unable to meet the deadline. Lack of money to pay fees is not considered an extenuating circumstance. Students anticipating difficulty in paying fees before the add deadline should check with the Financial Aid Office about sources of funds or other alternatives for which they may be eligible.

Home Work

All homework is to be typed and submitted electronically through WebCT. Handwritten assignments or any other format than the one specified online will not be accepted.

Formatting Guidelines

For all assignments, make sure to include proper identification of yourself and use appropriate formatting, including date, class name and section (CRN), table of contents, table of references, and page numbers. Use Arial or Times-Roman font - no fixed-size fonts - e.g. Courier - except for software code; use a font size no smaller than 10 points and no larger than 12 points; use 1.0 to 1.5-inch margins.

Semester Paper

Write a minimum 10-page, double-spaced paper on a topic of your choice related directly to the use of computer and information systems technology. Avoid topics covered in detail in class. Submit electronically in Microsoft Word format. Include appropriate references (at least three external). This must be your own creative writing - no cutting & pasting, no teamwork. Format appropriately and professionally. (Optionally use MLA or APA format.)
