Course Description
 

CHIL 141 The Child, Family and Community

 

This course is a study of the dynamics of human development and socialization in a culturally pluralistic society. Emphasis is placed on the influences of contemporary family living and cultural patterns on the child, school-family relationships, and community resources and services that support and strengthen families. This course is a core requirement for California Child Development teacher/director center permits as well as for the State of California Department of Community Care Title XXII licensing childcare centers requirements. This course is designed for all students interested in child development and multi-cultural and behavioral studies. (FT).Associate Degree Credit & transfer to CSU and/or private colleges and universities. CAN FCS 12 = CHIL 141 (City,Mesa).

 

THIS COURSE REQUIRES FOUR HOURS OF SERVICE LEARNING AT A LOCAL AGENCY.

 
Course Objectives
 

Student learning outcomes:

  • The student will identify and compare various family structures, redefining and contrasting their functions and roles.
  • The student will analyze the impact of the socializing agents on the developing child.
  • The student will discuss the application of developmental theories to the family and child.
  • The student will explore the dynamics of gender and sex role development.
  • The student will compare and contrast cultural diversity in various styles.
  • The student will identify the major social problems confronting families in American culture.
  • The student will evaluate community resources and agencies available to families.
 
Application and Registration Information
 

REGISTRATION DIRECTIONS:

  2. Receive registration appointment and instructions by email or mail.
  3. Register online at the Reg-e, our online registration system.
  4. Make sure that you pay your tuition so that you don't lose your registration!   Fees and Tuition Information.
  5. Order textbooks online. Visit our online bookstore.
  6. After completion of registration on Reg-e, and several days prior to the start of the semester, you will receive an email with course login instructions. If you don't receive an email please go to http://www.sdccdonline.net and login on the first day of class as follows:

    Type your Blackboard Vista Username = 7-digit College Student Identification (CSID) number
    Type your Password =  mmddyyyy (your birthdate with no hyphens, slashes, or spaces)

    For example:  1010101 (CSID number used at registration)
                           06231980 (password for the birthdate June 23, 1980 )
     
  7. If this course is closed, please login to Reg-e to be placed on a waitlist. If the waitlist is full, you will not be able to add your name to the waitlist.

You will not be able to login to your online course until the first day of the semester!!!
You must login to your online course on the first day of the session to avoid your enrollment being dropped.
