This course is a study of the interrelationship between the physical, cognitive and psychosocial growth and development of the individual from conception through adolescence. Emphasis is placed on positive relationships with family members, peers and other significant individuals. Theories and philosophies of human development and cross-cultural patterns are explored. Observations of children and educational programs are required. This course is a core requirement for the State of California Child Development Permit and the State of California Community Care Licensing, Title XXII.

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

1. Identify the basic patterns of development and growth from conception through adolescence in terms of physical, cognitive and psychosocial development.
2. Distinguish among stages of human growth including the first two years, the play years, the school years and adolescence in terms of physical, cognitive and psychosocial development.
3. Demonstrate appropriate observation and recording techniques through written reports.
4. Evaluate characteristics of different theories of human development and articulate a personal philosophy of child development.

6. After completion of registration on Reg-e, and several days prior to the start of the semester, you will receive an email with course login instructions. If you don't receive an email please go to http://www.sdccdonline.net and login on the first day of class as follows:
   
   Type your Blackboard Vista Username = 7-digit College Student Identification (CSID) number
   Type your Password =  mmddyyyy (your birthdate with no hyphens, slashes, or spaces)
   
   For example:  1010101 (CSID number used at registration)
                          06231980 (password for the birthdate June 23, 1980 )
    
7. If this course is closed, please login to Reg-e to be placed on a waitlist. If the waitlist is full, you will not be able to add your name to the waitlist.

You will not be able to login to your online course until the first day of the semester!!!
