Bio 110 Oceanography
3 Lecture Hours, 3 Units
Letter Grade or Credit/No Credit Option 

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

• Recall and compare oceanographic discoveries of the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries.
• Compare and contrast oceanographic equipment used in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries.
• List and define terminology, specific facts and general principles associated with the following: ocean topography, plate tectonics, waves, tides, chemistry and physics of sea water, light in the ocean, and ocean currents.
•  Analyze how the above (3) physical and chemical factors relate to the distribution and abundance of life in the sea.
• Differentiate between components in the classification of the marine environment.
• Construct marine food chains in different marine environments.
• Compare adaptations of organisms living in the intertidal zone, other benthic environments, and in the pelagic environment.
• Evaluate the importance of bioluminescence in marine organisms.
• Discuss characteristics of marine fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals.
• Describe the major fisheries of the world’s oceans.
•  Describe the pollution of the marine environment.

6. After completion of registration on Reg-e, and several days prior to the start of the semester, you will receive an email with course login instructions. If you don't receive an email please go to http://www.sdccdonline.net and login on the first day of class as follows:
   
   Type your Blackboard Vista Username = 7-digit College Student Identification (CSID) number
   Type your Password =  mmddyyyy (your birthdate with no hyphens, slashes, or spaces)
   
   For example:  1010101 (CSID number used at registration)
                          06231980 (password for the birthdate June 23, 1980 )
