Handout (pdf)

Brief Description:
Based upon 50 years of research on how teachers teach and how students learn, in 1987 Arthur Chickering and Zelda Gamson published a seminal article in the AAHE journal that identifies seven principles for good practice in undergraduate education. While these principles were identified within the context of traditional instruction, it is apparent that they are equally applicable to the online delivery mode. This workshop will present practical ideas and suggestions on developing online courses that promote…

• Instructor/student communication

• Cooperation among students

• Active learning

• Time on task

• Prompt feedback

• Communication of High Expectations

• Respect for diverse talents and learning styles

What specific things will attendees learn from your session?

  • Participants in this workshop will focus upon Chickering and Gamson’s seven principles, and will come away with several practical ideas for implementing each of them in an online setting.
